Tuesday Topic - PLEASE buy from me!

You have a friend who learned to stamp from you
and always asks for advice on card ideas etc when
she's working on a project. She's just called again,
asked for your card idea and says, "I'm running to
the store today to buy the supplies... is there
anything else I should get?" You don't want to seem
greedy and say "Duh, you goof ball.. buy it from me"
but you really want to bring up the discussion with
her at some point because it's happening all the time.
What would you say/do?

I think for this one, I'd probably explain to her what to get from the "other source" for this particular project (since she wants it today), but then add something like "for your next project, to make it easier for you and save your time from running to the store and risking that you can't even find what you need there, I could place an order for you with Stampin' Up and have it delivered to your house."

No just kidding! :-) I'm feeling a tad feisty right now.

But in reality I would tell her right then and there. I wouldn't wait for another opportunity to hang up the phone on her. I'd probably say something like, "I tell you what, I can get these for you granted it won't be here today, but we can have it tomorrow if we pay for Fed-X. And say in your cute voice, that getting the supplies from you, she'll also be getting your expert opinion and you can tell her how things work, etc." Also, use this conversation as an opportunity to remind her about classes you offer, where you give project ideas plus they can get a discount (if you offer it) for orders placed at the event. Then also remind her that orders arrive within 7 to 10 business days, right at her doorstep, she can do other errands meanwhile and it will save her tons of time rather than having to look for it elsewhere and buying more things that she thinks she needs! And then.......hang up the phone... :-)

I always tell my customers all the time, that I come with their purchase so they know they can come to me for advice, ideas, etc. And I tell them I'm a SU! snob, so they know better not to ask me about how things work on something they didn't purchase from me.

So there.......

Love this "Tuesday Topic" - keep up the great ideas!

I'd tell her she needs to become a SU demonstrator so she can go on the web site and get 3 new card ideas a day and buy her mrchandise at a discount.

I always boast our quality. Everyone I know who is a real stamper eventually, often with my prodding, comes around the realization that our stuff is just better. I'd tell her that and why.
